7.4 Technology Group 9 years, 7 months agoTechnology is changing the way in which we view learning spaces and the personal learning environment of our students because students surf the Internet, Tweet, use Facebook and come up with lots of learning material that a teacher may fail to find single handed for his learners. We as teachers at school need to allow our learners to explore the…[Read more]

Emma,
This ok with me as well. Yes teacher based on whatever approaches teacher intended. My feel is that we insist on a kind architecture that will prevent not only the rain but dust, wind noise etc.-
I would consider that for the existing hardware but would advocate for virtue learning spaces the way to go. more so this wiuld involve parents more in learning. Simply because some parents dont want their childrento access Internetbecause of fear to adopt bad cultures. But if Principal informs all parents about the Virtual school learning…[Read more]

Yes! what ever happens inside there, an environment that is free from noise, wind, rain is highly recommended.

7.4 Technology Group 9 years, 7 months agoThe contradiction of learners engaging and learning with technology away from school, only to be told to put away their technologies at school in order to “learn” should be seriously addressed and resolved.
-
That comes with a lot of sensitization and it begins with us the converted.
-
Sure Emma, but it may not come easily just like Patrick notes, a lot of sensitization to many stakeholders.

Whether sooner or later, the issue must be addressed.

This resource illustrates how blended learning has been given a new face and a new outlook: Digital classrooms are not a supplement to the physical classrooms; instead, digital platforms should be seen as the key to expand the learning environment…[Read more] -

This site explains how two teachers and their students use technology (Chromebooks, GAFE, digital resources) to break down barriers and do things otherwise not possible. According to them learning is not about answers, but about thinking and working with others in…[Read more]-
I think this resource will enrich our understanding on breaking the walls concept.

in fact once this is put into practice. the coaching and cramming of answers so that students pass exams will come to an end.

Students are given opportunity to lead their teachers with their knowledge and interest in reaching beyond the classroom.

7.3 3 – new things and old ways – will old tactics work with mobile technologies? 9 years, 7 months agoAfter reading the article about the use of mobile phones in learning and how it is spreading like bush fire among our 21st century learners, I have been convinced that our teaching must be tailored to the way our learners can understand. Even though it is still a gimmick in our secondary schools for any learner to carry and use a mobile phone in…[Read more]

Sulaiman,
This is the greatest of problems we faced in the teaching and learning process. To me any thing that distracts attention among learners is what i may refer to as problem behavior. These are issues as referred to in our task 3. The question is managing these issues.

Thank you Stephen

It should not worry a teacher that the student has read ahead! That should be encouraged.

7.3 1 – old things and old ways – dedicated technology venues 9 years, 7 months agoI would ask the following questions:

What precautions need to be considered when using low density computer labsIn what ways can teachers make their lessons engaging and interesting in these venues?
What would be the appropriate role…[Read more]-

Thanks Nellie for those wonderful questions? What we think of other techology tools to supplement the few available computers?
-
the ways are very many to make pupils engaged. but it depends on what is to be learned
-
True Wandera and Twaha. That is what the teacher has to be on top of things. He needs to be flexible enough and knowledgeable enough to know what technology tools that work.
-
Yes Nellie and we need to teach ourselves how to handle issues regarding challenges with computers like using free resources

Very true , one computer, some times they even have more but they only use the devices in the classrooms. We have not thought of learning beyond classroom walls. And this takes us back to old basket.e

I wish to agree with Mr. Bulamba that the current way mobile technologies are integrated in teaching is like doing new things in old ways. The very old pedagogies are still being used to teach using the mobile devices. However, I see good potential for learning using the mobile devices if pedagogy can be changed to suit the new wave of mobile…[Read more]

True Martin and Sulaiman. The unwillingness of teachers to let learners use their personal devices in studying which by the way could be more efficient than the one computer in class makes it difficult for them to fully infuse technology in their teaching.
It could be that they are not well grounded in the integration of ICT in the teaching and…[Read more] -
the technology tools used in schools, what i have noted that the teachers have not realized their potential. they simply don’t know what they can do (the extent)
