True Geoffrey. The collaboration goes past the walls and makes them nonexistent
-
I agree with you Geoffrey. They are not limited by time too. Any time any where they can study.
They enables students to remain engaged. -
True Geoffrey and Marg. Include the following: Technology promotes self-directed learning, provides far more access to many students bringing about a universal connectivity.

7.4 Technology Group 9 years, 5 months agoI also take the view that classroom walls do not have to be physically broken down. Learning can take place anywhere with technology using internet connected devices. Any space can be turned into a learning space e.g. homes, museums, playgrounds, field excursion, green spaces, auditoriums, computer labs, public spaces, learning centers, courtyards, etc.

7.4 Technology Group 9 years, 5 months agoUsing technology, the learners can reach out to more information, get in touch with social communities, and social platforms that exist in the global network. That way, they do not feel caged in the classroom even if they are carrying out their activities within those walls. They get to sit as they think would best offer them comfortable learning.

7.4 Technology Group 9 years, 5 months agoBreaking the walls does not necessarily mean breaking the physical walls. It means being able to learn in groups, and pairs without necessarily being in traditional sitting formation or havingnthe teacher as the center of knowledge and learning. It means being able to use whatever available space there is within the four walls and without. It is…[Read more]

in groups and by use of technology, learners learn how to research and design new technologies and media that deliver powerful teaching and promote engaged learning
-
Breaking the walls simply means that classrooms should support the activities of effective learning: that is, situated, collaborative, and active learning.
-
You are right Maggaret. breakind down the walls also encompasses accessing technonolgy by using internet connected devices so that learning can take place anywhere. Students can get everything they need to assist them in their learning journey.
-
You rightly put Margaret. However, we must ensure they we help break down the walls, it is not merely substitution but move towards the high ladder of augmentation and redefinition.
-
I agree Willex, if it’s just mere substitution without functional change we shall just be in “old things, old ways”
-
-
Maggie, I like that idea of being able to use available space within (more creatively) and without as long as there is connectivity.

Thanks Geoffrey. Site is rich with information on classroom learning and technology and it also has links. Most importantly it tells of how technology supports learning beyond the four walls.
Thanks for your contribution. The cite gives insight on extending learning beyond the classroom.
I am amused by the contrast of going to school on the first day then and now. Time will come when you can attend school on the first day from your bedroom using a mobile tech tool and say hi Tutor!!!!!
Wonderful resource. It does not only talk about breaking down the walls, it goes on to tell us other wonderful practices like classes becoming collaborative.
