7.4 Technology Group 9 years, 5 months agoTechnology is changing the way in which we view learning spaces and the personal learning environment of our students because students surf the Internet, Tweet, use Facebook and come up with lots of learning material that a teacher may fail to find single handed for his learners. We as teachers at school need to allow our learners to explore the…[Read more]

Yes! this is too ambitious for African settings like in Uganda, we just have to be patient, but this the ideal constructive learning spaces to meet the ever changing need of technology development.

7.4 Technology Group 9 years, 5 months agoHi members I do agree that technology can break down classroom walls and create even much more knowledge than the teacher can give in class as well as ensuring collaboration among learners and their teacher, but we should not forget that it all goes along with a connection to a server which may not be easy for learners in the remote areas of the…[Read more]

7.4 Construction group 9 years, 5 months agoWhereas construction of suitable classroom space provides for benefits such as flexibility and collaboration, it may also have few challenges.
-There will a problem of adoption and interfearing with specific models and the problem of change fatigue.
-Intermittent connections through institutional learning systems and

Well Stephen…….. Do you find any advantages in creating a learning space that is flexible and at the same time allows flexibility? Leave for the anticipated challenges……
-
Meant space enough to accommodate multiple activities.
-
-
Yes Mr. Otikori, given adequate commitment to integrating ICT, dont you think that forexample audio chats arouse interest in learning, and build up cognitive skills, emotionally goodlearners?
-
Right,
My stand point here is the aspect of attitudinal change in our traditional teachers being a challenge.
-
-
Well, such anticipated challenges should fiercely be remedified to open acess to new ways of getting things done in the class room, the modern way.

7.4 Construction group 9 years, 5 months agoConstruction is still largely dictated by “teacher in classroom” scenario. With devices like tablets, all that may be necessary is a rooftop to guard against rain!

Emma,
This ok with me as well. Yes teacher based on whatever approaches teacher intended. My feel is that we insist on a kind architecture that will prevent not only the rain but dust, wind noise etc.-
I would consider that for the existing hardware but would advocate for virtue learning spaces the way to go. more so this wiuld involve parents more in learning. Simply because some parents dont want their childrento access Internetbecause of fear to adopt bad cultures. But if Principal informs all parents about the Virtual school learning…[Read more]

7.4 Technology Group 9 years, 5 months agoThe contradiction of learners engaging and learning with technology away from school, only to be told to put away their technologies at school in order to “learn” should be seriously addressed and resolved.
-
That comes with a lot of sensitization and it begins with us the converted.
-
Sure Emma, but it may not come easily just like Patrick notes, a lot of sensitization to many stakeholders.
