2 Setting the Scene

You have been teaching for many years and you are regarded as a competent teacher. You know your subject well and you might even be using a variety of teaching approaches. Nothing much has changed for a while now, but suddenly technology has come onto the scene in the recent past. You are suddenly unsure of yourself and you wonder how technology fits into your approaches to teaching. The more you think about it the more you start to reflect on your teaching practices and wonder whether you are on the right track for a teaching and learning in a digital society. You need clarity in terms of what the important principles of teaching and learning you should continue to embrace in your lesson design.

This course helps you to establish the foundations of learning and challenges you to consider which principles of learning are most suited to your context and which principals you feel you can successfully adopt when designing learning. You are also challenged to ascertain where technology could fit in and whether it is possible to redesign learning in your learning institution’s context.
