7.3 4 – new things and new ways – what do emerging trends show us 9 years, 5 months ago These technologies have become a pervasive part of everyday life in much of the world, and are growing everywhere. Students have ever-increasing expectations of being able to work, play and learn on these devices whenever they want and wherever they may be. Once banned from the classroom in some developed countries, mobile devices and apps are making a comeback and schools are beginning to rethink standing policies. Some are even beginning to implement “bring your own device” (BYOD) programs. With a steady flow of new apps that take advantage of the continual stream of enhancements to these tools, as well as key advances in electronic publishing, and the convergence of search technology and location awareness, mobile devices and apps grow more and more interesting with each passing month.

Social media is one of the pervasive technologies. As much as schools and institutions block their use, students always find a way of accessing them for their own benefit. Teachers need to utilise this and use it profitably for students’ learning and achievement.
I agree entirely.
